DO's:
- Take your medicine as prescribed by the doctor.
- Begin eating when the anesthetic wears off. Drink 8-10 ounces of clear fluids (water, light juice) every waking hour for next several days. Stay away from orange and tomato type juices. They are acidic.
- Keep ice on the side of your face as much as possible for the rest of the day (15 minutes on, 15 minutes off).
- Get plenty of rest.
- Do not brush the surgical site for 48 hours. You can brush/floss all of your other teeth.
- After lying down, get up slowly to prevent dizziness.
- Call us if swelling continues to increase after the third day or a fever greater than 101.0 degrees F develops.
- TOMORROW begin rinsing with warm salt water every hour (8 oz of water with ¼ tsp. Salt). Hold moist heat compresses against the cheek side of the surgical site.
DON'TS:
- NO SMOKING OR DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES FOR THE NEXT 72 HOURS.
- No smokeless tobacco for a week.
- No carbonated beverages for the next 72 hours.
- Do not pull the lip back to look at the area. By doing so may cause you to pull out the stitches accidentally.
